Foscam Serial Update Instructions

Preparation:

Open the camera and find the white printed word J2 on the mainboard (which is four pins). All the MJPEG cameras serial pins marked J2.

Weld the serial cable (made by yourself or buy CP2102, the USB-TTL-RS232 Convert Serial Cable) on the mainboard, about the definition of these four pins please refer to the schematic.

Following the below steps:

  1. Connect Serial Port Line of the IP Camera to the computer, and then check the port

  1. Open Tera Term Pro and select the port information which is checked in the first step on it.

Note: Please run Tera Term Pro (for Windows 7) or the system tool of HyperTerminal (for Windows XP) to do following operating.

 

Choose COM4 according to the serial port it connected as Figure 1.3.

  1. Click SetupSerial port, set the ‘Baud Rate’ to 115200 and then click ‘OK’

  1. Reboot (power off and then power on) the IP Camera. Press ‘Esc‘ button on the keyboard quickly according to the prompt message ‘Press ESC to enter debug mode’.

When it shows bootloader >, it indicates we can input command.

  1. Type in ls to check information.

  1. Type in del 6 to delete image 6.

Type in del 7 to delete image 7.

  1. Type in fx 6 romfs.img 0x7f0e0000 0x7f0e0000 –a and press Enter. If the ‘Waiting for download’ is shown on the window, please click File->Transfer->XMODEM->Send and select the XXXX.romfs.img file which is needed to upload. (Different models use different XXXX.img files; pls confirm you have the correct .img file before load it in the camera.) Note: The ‘0x7f0e0000‘ is the same as the image 6 when the ‘ls‘ command is typed in.

  1. Type in fx 7 linux.zip 0x7f020000 0x8000 –acxz and press Enter. If the ‘Waiting for download’ is shown on the window, please click File->Transfer->XMODEM->Send and select the linux.zip file which is needed to upload.

Note: 1. The ‘0x7f020000‘ is the same as the image 7 when the ‘ls’ command is typed in.

2. If you only need to revise the romfs.img file, the linux.zip doesn’t need to be deleted or updated.

9Type in boot to reboot the camera and finish the updating.

NOTE: We are only able to input command when it appears bootloader > If you cannot input command, pls check the connection of serial cable.
